In Turkey, the nation is still dealing with the serious ramifications of an earthquake that hit. Many people remain stranded under rubble; some have been confirmed dead and others are missing.
Across the world, other nations have rushed to the defense of Turkey, sending aid and resources their way. However, there is still a long way to go before Turkey is out of the woods.
The earthquake also arrived as Turkey was already facing serious complications stemming from war displacements. In some of the latest developments, children are being rescued as crippling cold weather raises the stakes even more, according to ABS CBN News.
Getting Children to Safety
In Kahramanmaras, Turkey, many people are without access to shelter, food, water, and other necessities. According to the United Nations, millions are believed to be homeless and hundreds of thousands require serious aid.
Some of these numbers include children. Though thankfully, individuals sent to rescue those in need were able to retrieve several children who found themselves trapped and stranded in the rubble.

The harm in Turkey also extends into Syria, where the United Nations says many individuals remain in need of humanitarian aid. Calling a ceasefire, per the United Nations, is going to make a huge difference in making sure that people in need are able to get the resources and support they require.
So far, amid the devastation, the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has come under fire. Critics around the world suggested that decisions made by Erdogan put his country at risk and harmed attempts to get help to people in the aftermath.
The Work Continues
Since the rescue missions began, viral footage and images have spread online. In some of the more serious cases, rescuers have been able to get to newborn babies and pull them out of harm’s way.
Then, there was another viral case of a mother who gave birth while under rubble. Sadly, she passed away; however, rescuers were eventually able to find and save her newborn baby.

At this point, it remains to be seen how much more work has to be done before Turkey is completely out of the woods.
Nevertheless, there are many people, including children, who are counting on being not just rescued, but also having access to critical supplies after they’ve been pulled from the rubble and deathly cold temperatures.
