Over the past several years, there’ve been increasing debates about censorship, free speech on the internet, and the influence of big tech.
Many social media platforms have been accused of applying censorship to people with right-of-center views and politics. Meanwhile, those on the left-of-center are said to be subjected to censorship far less often.
At the heart of this controversy is Twitter. Twitter has faced considerable accusations of being unfairly biased against conservatives, while letting left-wing users post whatever they want.
This led to Tesla CEO Elon Musk vowing to purchase Twitter. On Thursday, Musk’s acquisition of the site was complete, as documented by Breitbart News.
What to Know About Musk’s Ownership of Twitter
With Musk now controlling Twitter, he’s officially fired the company’s CFO, CEO, and leading attorney. It’s clear that Musk wants to handle Twitter in his own way; each of the aforementioned executives are folks whom Musk clashed with before.
In a statement detailing the reasoning behind his acquisition, Musk said he believes it’s important for thoughts and ideas on social media to be healthily debated.

Likewise, the business mogul stressed the danger of having social media divide into “echo chambers” of the far left versus the far right.
Musk also expressed his interest of bringing more users onto Twitter, making the platform better, more inclusive, and a net positive for society as a whole.
Background on the Acquisition and More
For quite some time, it looked as though Musk wasn’t actually going to go through with buying Twitter.
Along the way, there were some hiccups regarding the bots on Twitter’s site and whether or not the company was fully honest about these bots to Musk. Initially, Musk pulled out from the deal and said he wouldn’t be buying Twitter after all.
Though eventually, he changed his mind and went through with the acquisition after an initial legal battle between himself and the company.

Now that Musk officially owns Twitter, there are questions about whether or not people who were banned from the site will eventually regain access to their accounts.
Ultimately, this is a wait-and-see issue; though it’s very likely that Musk will undo some of the bans put in place previously by the company.
Throughout the entire process of Musk buying Twitter, many conservatives have been very supportive, stating it’s a positive development and stressing the need for platforms free of censorship.
The weeks and months ahead will now determine what comes next for Twitter.
