At the rate things are going, it very much looks like California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom will be running for president in 2024.
Newsom has been clearly seeking the spotlight by picking fights with GOP governors and even demanding a debate with Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis.
Very recently, a fundraiser that’s connected to Newsom’s family contended the governor is absolutely going to seek the White House in 2024 if Joe Biden declines to run for office.
Amid these reports, Newsom hasn’t come out to deny them. With all this talk of a Newsom 2024 candidacy, though, The View host Joy Behar weighed in on who she believes should be the running mate of Newsom, if he runs for office, per Breitbart News.
Newsom-Abrams 2024?
On The View, Behar asserted it would be “pretty good” for Newsom to run for office with Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams as his vice presidential candidate. Behar also made it clear that she believes the California governor has a viable chance of being president one day.
However, this assessment from Behar is conditional on Biden not running for president in 2024.
Before giving a Newsom-Abrams ticket her blessing, The View co-host said she believes the current president has the best chance of defeating Trump if he tries to run for president again.

Behar likewise made it clear that she believes Trump’s committed crimes and could be imprisoned by the time the 2024 presidential election gets here.
In expressing her interest in the former president being incarcerated, Behar reminded that Attorney General Merrick Garland once stated that no individual is beyond the law.
Not a Likely Ticket?
There is a fair likelihood that Newsom will try to run for president in 2024, especially if Biden chooses to sit out the election.
However, the possibility of Abrams joining Newsom on a ticket, should he manage to win the Democratic primary, is slim to none.
For one thing, Abrams is trying for the second time to defeat Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. Abrams didn’t win in 2018 and she doesn’t appear very likely to win this go around either.

Kemp is already leading Abrams in the polls. If he wins another term in office as expected, this will be Abrams’ second time losing an election.
Furthermore, the possibility of Newsom getting through a 2024 Democratic primary is debatable at best. Even with Biden out of the running, there are other Democrats who are expected to emerge as candidates, such as Vice President Kamala Harris.
Besides, Newsom as a presidential candidate would also be forced to account for his many leadership failures in California. This would definitely be a strike against him on the national stage, even if he made it past the primary.
