During a conversation with the CEO of Texas Tribune, Evan Smith, Republican Representative Liz Cheney vowed to renounce the GOP and leave her political affiliations behind if they opt for Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
The comment came after she was asked whether her stance as a Republican would be shaken by the results of the election. This has become a point of contention now that it’s become obvious Biden isn’t here to stay.
Cheney shows not all Republicans are on board with Trump’s attempt at a re-election
On the other hand, Cheney was ousted by a Trump endorsee in last month’s GOP primaries, with her loss being largely due to her anti-Trump stance that scared a large portion of her followers away.

After the initial claims, Cheney continued to show disdain for the former president, adding she will do everything in her power to prevent his nomination. If she fails to do so, she will abandon the party entirely.
When Smith asked whether she would consider a presidential run to prevent Trump from being on the 2024 ballot, Cheney reiterated her previous claims, albeit without providing a clear answer to the question.
Cheney, being the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney was initially a staunch ally of Trump, with the two falling out after Trump’s claims of the 2020 election being rigged, which culminated in the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

Trump’s allies vote Cheney out of House position
After she showed displeasure with Trump’s actions, his congressional allies initially did everything they could to oust her from her position in February 2021.
However, the vote was unsuccessful, which led to several months of other members’ frustration with her support of Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th agenda.
Eventually, Cheney was voted out in May of that same year, after which Cheney would join Pelosi’s select committee after several warnings from GOP leadership against doing so.
As Cheney’s prominence as an anti-Trump activist grew though, Trump and his allies went to work making sure that her opponent in the primaries, Harriet Hageman, would knock it out of the park. This is exactly what happened.

No matter how hard Cheney may end up trying, the idea of Trump’s 2024 presidential run is a reality now more than ever. Unless the GOP opts for a younger candidate, which is what they’d initially planned for, Cheney is in for quite the treat.
If anything, she should be happy the party can put forward such a strong candidate, compared to the Democrat Party, whose worst choice, that being President Biden, will probably end up being the one they go with.
If Trump faces Biden in 2024, the election could be a clean sweep for the GOP, and the former president could get back to doing what he’s known for, making America great again, again.
