The Democrat Party appears to be at sort of a crossroads. Tensions between moderates and progressives within the party are perhaps higher than they’ve ever been. Both factions within the party have wholly different visions.
Moderate Democrats believe working with Republicans on occasion and steering clear of radically left policies is the best path forward.
This explains why lawmakers like Sen. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema have balked at the president’s Build Back Better Act and his agenda to demolish the filibuster.
Progressives have the polar opposite view. They believe going as far to the left as possible is necessary for change and political gain.
Likewise, progressive Democrats tend to dismiss their moderate counterparts as watered-down Republicans who are holding back the Democrat Party.
These days, there’s no telling what it will take for moderates and progressives within the Democrat Party to see eye-to-eye.
However, an indirect battle between Democratic NYC Mayor Eric Adams and progressive House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has now begun, per New York Post.
Battle of the Congressional Candidates
Concerning New York’s state assembly races, Adams and Ocasio-Cortez are backing very different Democratic candidates.
The NYC mayor’s support is going to Inez Dickens, an incumbent assemblywoman of Harlem. Ocasio-Cortez, meanwhile, is throwing her support behind Delsenia Glover, a progressive activist on housing matters who is challenging Dickens.
In other New York races, the NYC mayor and New York House Democrat continue to back opposite candidates within the Democrat Party.

Adams believes moderate and more establishment Democrats are the best bet. Ocasio-Cortez, on the other hand, thinks the progressive, socialist Democrats are the future of the party and ought to be in office.
What’s more is that Adams and Dickens are trying to draw clear lines in the sand between themselves and socialist Democrats, such as Ocasio-Cortez and the candidates she’s currently backing.
Bigger Fish to Fry in New York?
Like many left-wing cities throughout the United States, New York City has a very serious issue with crime that it has yet to get ahold of.
Even Adams, who is not a progressive socialist, still has yet to get a hold of this, despite having been in office for months now. Likewise, the NYC mayor was all on board with COVID vaccine mandates that led to law enforcement officers being fired.

Many folks noted that amid NYC’s major crime crisis, the last thing the city’s leadership ought to be doing is cutting loose police officers. Unfortunately, Adams has shown no willingness to hire back officers who lost their jobs over not taking COVID vaccines.
