Talk about former President Trump making another run for office continues. Meanwhile, the Republican field is expanding, with growing numbers of possible GOP candidates who could challenge the former president if he follows through on a 2024 run.
However, there are some Americans who don’t want Trump to seek re-election again. Some people believe the nation could benefit from having new blood.
Others believe that controversy surrounding the 2020 presidential election and the January 2021 riots would ultimately hold Trump back as a candidate.
Recently, the New York Times put out a story, claiming that Trump may announce his presidency early to push back support for other GOP candidates and take attention away from the January 6 committee.
This is something the former president has strongly denied, per Newsmax.
A Deep Dive into the NYT’s Claims
Because of campaign finance laws associated with presidential elections, contenders generally hold off on making campaign announcements ahead of time. However, the New York Times argued that Trump has different plans in mind.
The publication stated the former president could announce his 2024 candidacy this month. Furthermore, the Times said Trump feels threatened by growing support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president in 2024.

However, Trump ripped this report on Truth Social, saying it’s fake news. According to the former president, the media is full of people who are “sick,” “bad,” and running their own agendas.
Trump also denied the Times’ claim that he’ll be announcing his 2024 candidacy early to distract from his poor record of endorsements. To this end, the former president said his endorsements have consistently panned out and done well.
Finally, the publication argued that RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel wants Trump to hold off on making any presidential announcements until this year’s midterms have passed.
Too Early to Tell
At this time, there’s no way to be certain who will run in 2024 and who will not run. Candidates aren’t making campaign announcements this early because doing so would be extremely disadvantageous.
The midterms will be a significant factor in the 2024 presidential election, though. Likewise, the events that transpire for the remainder of Biden’s term in the White House will also affect the dynamics of the nation by the time 2024 rolls around.

After the midterms, however, Americans will have a better feel for who is most likely to get into the 2024 presidential election. In the meantime, however, people can expect to hear about more potential contenders and observe prospective 2024 polls.
