Over the past several weeks, the United States has seen a string of mass shootings.
Each of these tragedies has claimed lives, put people in hospitals, and ultimately contributed to division and tense emotions that stand today. Political debates over the pros and cons of gun control have emerged from these massacres as well.
Furthermore, there are growing conversations about the measures law enforcement can take to prevent people from carrying out mass shootings.
A lot of this deals with awareness of individuals who are known to police, along with taking reports and various tips from the community seriously.
Thankfully, police officers in Richmond, Virginia have exemplified what this really means. These officers ultimately helped prevent yet another mass shooting from occurring, as documented by Newsmax.
A Major Life Saver
Rolman A. Balacarcel and Julio Alvarado-Dubon were apprehended by law enforcement after authorities were tipped off about the pair’s plans to carry out a mass shooting on Independence Day.
The tip led to Richmond police not only arresting these two individuals, but also discovering rifles, firearms magazines, hundreds of ammunition rounds, and a pistol in their possession.

Neither Balacarcel nor Alvarado-Dubon are American citizens. Both men have been charged with being in possession of a firearm as a non-American citizen. Police have also been clear that both men could be facing more charges as well.
After a member of the Richmond community reported Balacarcel and Alvarado-Dubon to police, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI got involved as well.
By arresting these two men, Richmond police officers, along with the person who reported Balacarcel and Alvarado-Dubon have saved countless lives.

Events over the past several weeks have led to growing numbers of questions about what could be inspiring people to commit mass shootings and needlessly take innocent lives.
Some people believe that mentally unwell individuals are inspired to commit these heinous acts as a means of getting famous and having their faces plastered everywhere.
This has led to growing calls for the media not to name mass shooters or give them any sort of notoriety whatsoever.
