AOC Wants All Tools to Halt a ‘Rogue’ Supreme Court

In reaction to the court ruling that women do not have a legal right to an abortion, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) urged “every option” to be on the table in order to stop the “rogue” Supreme Court.

Ocasio-Cortez claimed removal from office should be an option after Sens. Susan Collins and Joe Manchin acknowledged they were confused by Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh’s statement that Roe v. Wade was “established law.”

Demanding a Call to Action

The head of the progressive “Squad” told Punchbowl News on Wednesday that she thinks enlargement of the Supreme Court should be on the table. AOC feels an ethical guideline should be considered.

She believes recusal requirements have to be considered. Everything should be evaluated immediately. She said the degree to which the group has gone off the rails shouldn’t stop us from trying anything.

Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly called for stringent actions against many of the high court’s Republican-appointed judges, including Justice Clarence Thomas, whom she wants “impeached from the Supreme Court for his spouse Ginni Thomas’ political activity.”

On Monday, Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Ted Lieu filed a petition to the Senate requesting an investigation into whether Gorsuch or Kavanaugh misled the Senate about Roe during their Senate confirmation process.

The two Democrats stated in a letter to Chuck Schumer that they appreciate the liberty of individual Supreme Court justices to hold their own opinions on various constitutional problems.

Though they cannot have a structure in which justices must lie about their views to be affirmed; it mocks the confirmation authorities and the principle of separation of powers.

However, on Sunday, Majority Senate Whip Dick Durbin, who also chairs the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee, dismissed as “not practical” demands from party members to impeach Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Thomas, the senior associate justice, was criticized for the disclosure about his wife, which occurred after he was the sole member of the high court to disagree in a case involving the investigation of the January 6 Capitol incident.

The issue was the former president’s request to stop the House review panel from accessing White House documents.

Democrats’ Vow

Even though Democratic politicians have promised to impeach many Republican-appointed justices, experts say it would be nearly impossible to get rid of a sitting Supreme Court justice for several reasons.

For one thing, there wouldn’t be enough votes in the Senate.

In addition, the only high court judge to have been indicted was Justice Samuel Chase in 1805 for excessively political behavior on the bench. The Senate later acquitted him.

Last month, Dan Urman, a law professor at Northeastern University, told the school’s weekly website that their meticulous lawyerly language demonstrated they were ready to overturn Roe.

If they weren’t, they could have given a less cautious and more direct answer.

He stated he did not believe any of them perjured in the technical legal sense since their statements were sufficiently broad and descriptive of the law at the time of their nomination.
