Megan Rapinoe, a soccer player and activist for the left who memorably kneeled during the singing of our Star-Spangled Banner, will get the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor.
This is according to President Joe Biden’s announcement on Friday.
Why Honor These People?
According to a White House news release, the award will be given to “persons who made an outstanding subsidy to the economy, morals, or protection of the country, international peace, or other major societal, public, or private projects.”
Honorees “have courageously worked to drive change in society — and around the globe — while lighting up trails for forthcoming generations,” according to the statement.
“They have committed their lives to championing for the most susceptible among us and conquering substantial barriers to achieve remarkable successes in the arts and sciences.”

Rapinoe is “a notable advocate for gender wage equity, racial justice, and LGBTQI+ rights,” according to the White House, which described the athlete.
The socialist activist, 36, is also well-known for her decision to repeatedly kneel during the signing of the American flag and National Anthem before soccer matches.
Rapinoe, the captain of the U.S. national soccer team, and other players, for instance, took a knee prior to the match in Tokyo last year to stand “against racism,” but this was not done during the National Anthem.
More recently, the activist caused a stir when she claimed last week that parents and female athletes should learn to accept the possibility that born male transgender athletes may have benefits over girls.
Rapinoe added, “I would also urge everybody out there who is worried that someone may unfairly benefit their child to really take a step back and realize what are we currently talking about on here.”
“We’re discussing people’s lives. I’m sorry, but the high school water polo team for your child is just not that significant.”

Also, she continued, “I think folks also need to learn that athletics aren’t the most important thing in the world. Life is the most significant aspect of existence.”

Notably, previous President Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to legendary conservative radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh in 2020, just before Limbaugh passed away.
“Rush, I am pleased to announce tonight that you will be able to receive our Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor,” Trump said.
“It is an acknowledgment of all you have achieved for our country, the millions of people every day who you communicate to and who you encourage, and all of the fantastic work you have done for charitable causes.”
Other noteworthy individuals who received the honor from President Biden also include late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, actor Denzel Washington, and athlete Simone Biles.
